How much wealth a household has can be an important indicator for understanding one’s ability to thrive and weather emergencies. Until now, we’ve had to rely on proxies for understanding the drivers of wealth and the local wealth gap. But we’ve innovated a new modeling technique, addressing the limited local data about wealth and providing needed insight to closing the wealth gap for our region.

Inspired by the inequities exposed during the COVID-19 pandemic and summer 2020’s national reckoning with social justice issues, this collection of essays seeks to identify the historical foundations of today's most pressing issues while providing relevant recommendations that would produce more equitable outcomes, increased economic inclusion, greater regional competitiveness, and broader prosperity for all.

As New Orleans completes her 300th year, the tricentennial is an important moment to reflect on the city’s history and achievements. But in addition to celebrating their storied past, New Orleanians are eager to learn from it.
